The Jota: the most succesful moorish song in Spain
A few days ago I was in a little town near Saragossa, singing at a Jota school of renowned tradition. Through the guidance of my Teacher Sonia Platero I was introduced to the communal life of the inhabitants of Épila, Aragón, who participate actively in preserving traditional singing. Jota del Ebro (The Jota of the Ebro Valley) is a style of four stanza Strophe sung freely to the Fandango chord-alternation (:V-I:) If the Fandango is the Hispanic Dance, I would say learning the jota has meant for me learning THE Spanish song!
