The School is the welfare-face of the German sustainable food producer Demeter, however, I walked through the plantation and I found the conditions quite analogue to those of the Sugar Cane plantations of my home-region in Colombia, saving of course important differences: the plantation of the school Girasol is environmentally friendly and therefore saves the enormous harm that is seen in the soil of the Valle del Cauca. The school Girasol provides accessible and valuable Waldorf education, which gives the children an approach to a privileged program, but I want to speak up for the migrant Haitian population, which lures this type of working environment. The government of the Dominican Republic is chasing Haitians in the most unhuman way as I write. They are the current slaves living under constant fear in the shadows of plantations like the one in which the school Girasol is located.
